BALTIMORE - Freshman Hannah Schmitt has been named the National Rookie of the Week after leading the Loyola University Maryland women’s lacrosse team to a pair of BIG EAST conference wins.

Schmitt led the team with a career-high six points on a personal-best four goals and two assists, as the Greyhounds knocked off the previously unbeaten No. 6 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 17-11, to improve to 3-0 in the BIG EAST for the second-straight year. In addition, Schmitt tallied two goals in a 16-8 win over Cincinnati on Friday.

For the week, Schmitt had eight points on six goals and two assists, while she also added three ground balls, two draw controls and three caused turnovers.

So far this season, Schmitt is second on the team with 20 goals and is third with 23 points. She has also added 17 ground balls, nine draw controls and eight caused turnovers.

Schmitt is one of three Greyhounds to be named the national rookie of the week by this season. In addition, three of the last four honors have gone to a Greyhound, as Sydney Thomas earned the honor on March 12 and Annie Thomas was honored last week.

Loyola (7-3, 3-0 BIG EAST) will head on the road this week for a conference game at Louisville on Thursday, April 5. Opening draw is slated for noon.
