PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse players Grace Gavin and Kerry Stoothoff are the recipients of the BIG EAST Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards, respectively, the league office announced today.
The honors mark the second time in three weeks that the duo has swept the BIG EAST awards. They also were tabbed for the laurels on March 14.
As a team, the Greyhounds jumped to fourth in this week's deBeer/Inside Lacrosse media poll. The IWLCA coaches' rankings will come out later on Monday.
Gavin earned the offensive honor honors after recording 15 points in a pair of Loyola wins. The senior had 10 goals, along with five assists, four draw controls, three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
In a 15-8 win at UMBC, Gavin scored four goals and assisted on three others. She then helped Loyola defeat Denver, 20-10, yesterday, scoring six goals and assisting on a pair.
This is the second time Gavin, who is the reigning BIG EAST Attacker of the Year, has earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors this year, she also earned the award on March 14.
Stoothoff received the defensive award after registering an 8.21 GAA in the Greyhounds' two victories. The junior totaled 12 saves in 95 minutes last week and grabbed two ground balls.
At UMBC, Stoothoff had 11 saves and played the full 60 minutes. This is the fourth time she has been named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, Stoothoff also earned the honor on February 21, March 7 and March 14.
