PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Cara Filippelli picked up her second BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week award in as many weeks after helping Loyola beat two ranked teams - No. 14 Cornell and No. 16 James Madison - last week.
The sophomore defensive midfielder scored four goals, three against James Madison on Saturday, leading the Greyhounds (6-1) to a come-from-behind victory over the Dukes, 10-9.
Filippelli scored the game-winner with just under five minutes remaining and then helped the Loyola defense hold off two Dukes' chances in the final two minutes.
She also caused four turnovers and picked up three ground balls against James Madison.
On Wednesday, Filippelli had a goal and an assist versus Cornell. She controlled a game-high four draws versus the Big Red and caused three turnovers.
She leads the team with 16 caused turnovers and is second on the squad with 19 ground balls this year.
Her teammate, Grace Gavin, was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second year in a row and third time this season. She scored seven goals on Wednesday against Cornell and had two goals and two assists versus the Dukes.
Loyola is back in action today when it travels to Newark, Del., for a 3:30 p.m. game at Delaware.
