PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After a 2-0 week, Loyola midfielder Meg Decker and defender Ana Heneberry have been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday afternoon. This is the first BIG EAST weekly award for Decker, while it is the second straight week that Heneberry has been recognized.
Decker led the Greyhounds with six goals and three assists for nine points during the week. This included a season-high five-point effort against BIG EAST rival and 20th ranked Rutgers, where she tallied three goals and two assists. At James Madison Saturday, March 20, Decker tallied her third straight hat trick and added an assist against a Dukes squad that came into the game unbeaten and led the nation in scoring defense.
For the season, Decker is third on the team with 13 goals, 20 points and 16 draw controls. She is also just four points away from recording her 100th career point. Decker scored 76 points on 63 goals and 13 assists as a freshman at Navy in 2008. She sat out last season per NCAA transfer rules.
Heneberry paced the defense with six caused turnovers as the Greyhounds allowed just seven goals a game in their pair of victories. This included a season-high four caused turnovers at Rutgers. Her pair of draw controls at James Madison was a career-high as well.
As a sophomore, Heneberry has recorded 17 ground balls and caused 15 turnovers. The Greyhounds lead the BIG EAST with 11.56 caused turnovers per game and Heneberry is tied for fifth individually in the statistic with 1.67 per contest.
The Greyhounds close out their non-conference schedule Wednesday, March 24, when they host Stony Brook at the Ridley Athletic Complex. Opening draw for the Power in Pink Day contest is slated for 2:00 p.m.
