Tabasso, Wolf, Powers Earn Corvias Patriot League Player Of The Week Honors

March 21, 2016

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Three Loyola University Maryland women’s lacrosse players picked up Corvias Patriot League weekly awards from the League office Monday, as redshirt freshman Sabrina Tabasso was named the midfielder of the week, senior Molly Wolf was honored as the defensive player of the week and freshman Hannah Powers was tabbed the rookie of the week.

The trio helped Loyola to a 2-0 week in League play, as the Greyhounds earned a 14-6 win over American Tuesday and an 8-2 victory over Navy Saturday at Ridley Athletic Complex.

Tabasso totaled four points, two assists, five ground balls, eight draw controls and a caused turnover in the two games. Against the Eagles, the midfielder from Rosemont, Pennsylvania, had three goals and an assist, to go with a career-high seven draw controls. She added a goal, assist and four ground balls against Navy, while also helping the defense force 17 of Navy’s 23 turnovers.

Wolf came up big in a rematch of last year’s Patriot League title game with Navy, as she made 10 saves against the Mids to mark the 19th double-digit save performance of her career and her fourth of the season. In allowing just two goals, the Baltimore, Maryland, native held Navy to more than 10 goals below its average, including a 45-minute scoreless streak, the longest drought for the Mids in program history.

Powers led Loyola through the two games with a combined eight points on three goals and five assists. The attacker from Skaneateles, New York, also added six ground balls in the games. Against American, Powers tallied two goals, four assists and three ground balls, while she followed that up with a goal, assist and three ground balls against Navy.

This weekly award marks the first of Tabasso’s career, while it’s the second time this season Wolf and Powers have been honored.

Loyola will step out of conference play for its next game, as the Greyhounds travel to Washington, D.C., for a Tuesday night game. Opening draw is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Cooper Field.
