BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland women’s lacrosse freshman Hannah Powers has been named the ILWomen National Rookie of the Week, as announced by the publication Tuesday.
Powers also picked up her first career weekly honor from the Patriot League this week, being named the Corvias Patriot League Rookie of the Week yesterday.
In a loss at No. 8 Penn State Saturday, the Skaneateles, New York, native had a hand in five of the Greyhounds’ eight goals. Powers’ personal-best five points were the most for any Greyhound this season and helped keep Loyola within striking distance of the Nittany Lions.
For the season, Powers is ranked second on the team in points, with nine, while she leads the squad with five assists.
Kara Burke was the last Greyhound to earn national player of the week honors, doing so during the NCAA Tournament last season, while Hannah Schmitt was the last Greyhound to earn a national rookie of the week honor, picking up the accolade from WomensLax.com on April 2, 2012. Powers is the first to earn National Rookie of the Week honors from ILWomen.
Loyola will return to the field on Wednesday when it hosts No. 8 Virginia at 7 p.m.
