Women's Lacrosse Opens 2007 Season Sunday

Baltimore, Md. - Sunday afternoon the Loyola College women's lacrosse team opens its 2007 campaign, hosting Hofstra as the second part of a double-header with the men's squad. The game will be broadcast locally on MASN.

ABOUT THE `HOUNDS
The Greyhounds return their top two leading scorers from last season in senior Kate McHarg and junior Maura Kenny. McHarg scored 60 goals in 2006 while adding nine assists. She also led in draw controls and groundballs with 38 in each category while adding 13 caused turnovers. Kenny scored 25 goals while adding two assists, 26 groundballs, eight caused turnovers and three draw controls. Other returning starters on the offensive end include Alicyn Brunnett, Kate Filippelli and Meg Taylor. The defensive unit is backed by three of the team's captains: Liz Peregoy, Kristen Stone and Bridget Zingler. McHarg is the team's fourth captain.

SCOUTING THE PRIDE
Hofstra's leading returns on the offensive end are seniors Casey McGrath and Kimberly Hillier. McGrath scored 50 goals while adding 16 assists last season while Hillier scored 48 times and dished out 25 assists. Another high scorer returning is sophomore Lauren Whitcomb who scored 21 goals in her freshman campaign. The defensive end returns its starting keeper in Maisie Osteen and several key players including seniors Kim Kozlowski and Kara Meekins.

This is the seventh meeting between these two teams in seven years. The Greyhounds won the first two outings while the Pride has won the last two.
