Emily Gibson Named Player of the Week

BALTIMORE - Emily Gibson received the first Player of the Week award of 2010, it was announced Monday afternoon by the organization. Gibson scored a career-high five goals and added an assist as the Greyhounds upset the tenth ranked Cavaliers in Charlottesville.

Loyola's 15-11 victory marked the first over Virginia in over a decade (April, 1999). After Virginia built a 5-2 lead, Loyola came back to score seven unanswered goals, including Gibson's first two of the game. In the season-opener at #18 Penn State, Gibson added a goal and three ground balls as well as picking up a ground ball and draw control.

Gibson, as well as sophomore goalkeeper Kerry Stoothoff, was also named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Stoothoff posted a career-high 15 saves in a 60-minute effort in Loyola's upset victory at Virginia. In the opener at Penn State, Stoothoff allowed just nine goals in 60 minutes.

Stoothoff, Gibson and the Greyhounds travel to crosstown rival UMBC Tuesday, February 23 for a 7:00 pm dogfight against the Retrievers.
