Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola women's lacrosse team was picked 14th in the Intercollegiate women's lacrosse coaches association pre-season poll announced Wednesday night. The Greyhounds finished last season in 20th place with a 5-11 record.
"We're happy that we've moved up in the polls after finishing last season in 20th place but what matters to us is were we are at the end of the season," head coach Kerri O'Day said. "We're a tough team and I think we have the ability to move up in the polls as the season goes on."
The defending champion Northwestern was picked as the pre-season favorite to reclaim their crown. The three other semifinalists from a year ago are all ranked in the top-five, with No. 2 Duke, No. 3 Dartmouth, and No. 5 Virginia all looking to returnto the final weekend. Former champion Princeton checks in at No. 4 to round out the top five.
Loyola joins the BIG EAST this season and that addition gives the conference No. 10 Georgetown, No. 13 Syracuse, No. 14 Loyola and No. 18 Notre Dame.
