BALTIMORE - Just over two weeks before its first game of the 2009 season, the Loyola women's lacrosse team received recognition from national coaches in the first Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association/Under Armour weekly poll.
The Greyhounds, who play at Stony Brook on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, to start the season, were one of 28 teams in Division I to receive votes from national coaches.
Loyola finished just outside the Top 20 in the paneling.
Three of the Greyhounds' foes from the BIG EAST Conference - Syracuse (2nd), Georgetown (8th) and Notre Dame (11th) - were amongst the teams ranked in the poll.
Six non-conference opponents that Loyola will face this year are in the rankings - Virginia (4th), Princeton (7th), James Madison (16th-Tied), Cornell (16th-Tied), Denver (19th-Tied) and Towson (19th-Tied).
After opening the season on the road, Loyola makes its home debut on Saturday, February 21, when fourth-ranked Virginia comes to Diane Geppi-Aikens Field at 3:30 p.m.
