BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team has earned a top-10 preseason ranking in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine NCAA Division I women's lacrosse preseason ranking. The Greyhounds were selected ninth in the poll, which was compiled by Lacrosse Magazine staff after consultation with college coaches.
The Greyhounds will face seven teams ranked in Lacrosse Magazine's preseason top-20, including two that advanced to the final four of last year's NCAA Championships. Loyola will open its season with a game at No. 15 Princeton on Saturday, Feb. 21, before returning to Baltimore to host No. 14 Johns Hopkins. The Greyhounds will also face No. 4 Florida, No. 11 Penn State, No. 6 Virginia and No. 18 Georgetown, respectively, before closing out their season hosting No. 3 Syracuse on Saturday, May 2.
Coming off the school's first-ever Patriot League Championship, Loyola returns a trio of All-Americans in senior attacker Annie Thomas, redshirt senior midfielder Taryn VanThof and junior defender Maddy Lesher. The Greyhounds also boast a senior class that not only features the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, four all-conference honorees and four all-tournament team selections, but will be looking for their fourth conference title in five years and their fifth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
