SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The 13th ranked Loyola Greyhounds fell to the eighth-ranked Syracuse Orange, 13-11 at Ernie Davis Legends Field at the Carrier Dome Friday night in BIG EAST women's lacrosse action. Grace Gavin led the Greyhounds with five points on four goals and an assist.
Christina Dove led all players with six points on two goals and four assists, while Tegan Brown and Michelle Tumulo added hat tricks.
After a score by Christina Dove gave Syracuse a 4-3 lead with 7:40 remaining in the first half, Cara Filippelli tied the game on an assist by Heneberry with 3:24 left.
Meg Decker then scored her 100th career point on an assist by Heneberry, but more importantly, it gave Loyola its first lead with 2:40 to go in the first session.
Tee Ladouceur tied the game with 1:25 left, but a score by Gibson off a pass from Gavin gave Loyola a 6-5 lead going into the half.
The Greyhounds led by two on three separate occasions in the second half, but after Abby Rehfuss scored on a free-position with 12:36 left, Syracuse scored six straight goals to take a 13-9 lead with just over a minute left.
Loyola fought back with scores by Gavin and Caroline Hager, but it was not enough to overtake the Orange.
Liz Hogan was huge in goal for Syracuse with 13 saves as Loyola outshot Syracuse, 29-23. The Orange are now 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the BIG EAST.
Kerry Stoothoff made five saves in the loss as the Greyhounds fell to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in the BIG EAST.
The Greyhounds are back in action when they take on the Connecticut Huskies Sunday, April 18 at 1:00 pm.
