Durham, N.C. - Loyola held a 6-5 halftime lead but the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils outscored the Greyhounds 9-4 in the second for a 14-10 win at Koskinen Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds fall to 3-8 on the season while Duke improves to 11-3.
Duke's leading scorer Katie Chrest scored the initial tally 3:41 into the contest but Loyola quickly answered. Rachel Shuck passed the ball off from behind the cage to a charging Maura Kenny for a 1-1 score 4:08 in. Chrest added another goal for a 2-1 score but the Greyhounds again answered just over a minute later when Kate McHarg sprinted down field on a clear and passed off to a waiting Sydney Greene to tie the game again, 2-2 9:50 into the game. The Blue Devils nabbed their third goal at 10:52 but for the third time the Greyhounds tied the game on an unassisted goal by McHarg at 12:53. Chrest scored her third goal at 13:37 before Sydney Greene rolled past her defender and took a side arm shot for a 4-4 tie 22:07 into the game. Chrest added her fourth goal on a break away play to set the score at 5-4. Loyola freshman Bridget Zingler nabbed her first career goal at 26:12 to tie the game at 5-5 while Kenny gave the Greyhounds the lead 5-4 28:41 into the game.
The Blue Devils came out hard in the second half, scoring the first six goal of the half for a 11-6 lead 38:41 into the contest. McHarg and Emily Lawrence got Loyola on the board in the second for a 11-8 score. Duke answered with three quick tallies to claim a 14-8 score but the Greyhounds did not go quietly as they scored two goal in the final 1:13, one from Greene and the final from Shuck for they 14-10 final.
Greene led Loyola in scoring with three goal while McHarg added two goals and an assist. Kenny added two goals while Shuck had a goal and two assists. Lawrence and Zingler each recorded one goal.
Duke was led by Chrest's seven goals and an assist.
The Greyhounds return to Diane Geppi-Aikens Field to host Penn on April 20.
