Boston, Mass. - After a 7-7 half time mark, No. 17 Boston University used a 9-2 run in the second half to defeat No. 11 Loyola, 16-9 Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field. The Terriers remain undefeated at 4-0 while the Greyhounds fall to 2-4.
BU opened scoring early with a free position goal by Jenny Hauser at 1:05. Loyola's Kate McHarg answered with her own goal at 2:36 for a 1-1 mark. The Greyhounds took a 2-1 lead with another goal by McHarg five minutes into the contest. The Terriers added another mark to tie things at two before Maura Kenny reclaimed the Loyola lead, 3-2 at 13:43. BU answered that goal again to tie things up at 14:31 and claimed a 4-3 lead at 15:27 on a free position from Alyssa Krudel. McHarg tied the game for the fourth time, 4-4 with her free position goal at 16:05. The Terriers scored their third free position goal of the game 18:05 into the game for a 5-4 lead but Shuck again tied things up at five with her unassisted goal at 19:23. Loyola was next to claim the lead with Kristen Stone's goal from Shuck for a 6-5 score at 21:15. The Terriers tied the game again at six with a goal from Mary Beth Miller with 6:15 left in the half. Sydney Greene reclaimed the Greyhounds lead at 22:15 at 7-6 but the Terriers would gain the tying goal before the close of the half for the 7-7 halftime mark.
The Terriers charged out of the gates in the second half, scoring the first seven goal to take a 14-7 lead with 10:29 remaining to play. The Greyhounds, who had been held scoreless until 55:35, got a goal from Shuck for the 14-8 score. Shuck's goal was assisted by Kate Filippelli. The exchange of goals began again as BU nabbed a goal at 56:58. Kenny gave thee Greyhounds their last tally of the day at 57:40 while the Terriers earned the last goal for the 16-9 final.
McHarg led the Greyhounds with three goals while Shuck added two goals and two assists. Shuck's two assists give her 100 in her career. Kenny also added two goals while Stone and Greene recorded one.
For BU, Hauser and Miller each recorded three goals and two assists. Angie Martin also added three goals while Lindsey Lewis and Krudel each had two goals. Kaitlyn Cuneo tallied a goal and an assist and Lauren Morton had a goal.
The Greyhounds return to action next Friday, March 25 when they travel to James Madison.
