Newark, Del. - The Loyola College women's lacrosse team snapped a two game skid as it defeated No. 19 Delaware, 10-8 Thursday night at Rullo Stadium. The Greyhounds improve to 2-2 with the win while the Blue Hens fall to 1-1 with the loss.
Sophomore Kate McHarg scored twice in the first six minutes of the contest as Loyola jumped out to a 4-1 halftime lead and never looked back. Freshmen Kate Filippelli and Maura Kenny also added goals early for the Greyhounds. Delaware got its only first-half goal on a score by Laura Miller with 22:58 remaining.
The teams traded goals for the first 13 minutes of the second half with the Greyhounds going up 8-3 on a goal by Chrissy Nicolaus with 17:18 remaining.
Delaware did not go quietly as it responded with back to back goals for a 8-5 score with 13:02 to go. Loyola answered with back-to-back goals of its own from Sydney Greene and McHarg to push the lead back up to five at 10-5.
The Blue Hens scored the final three goals of the game for the 10-8 final but their rally would fall short.
McHarg led Loyola in goals with three while Rachel Shuck tallied a goal and three assists to lead in points. Filippelli added two goals while Greene, Kenny, Emily Lawrence and Nicoluas each added one.
The Greyhounds remain on the road as they travel to No. 2 Princeton Sunday.
