Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 5 North Carolina, 12-4

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The No. 14 Loyola women's lacrosse team fell to No. 5 North Carolina, 12-4 Friday night at Fetzer Field. Junior Kate McHarg scored three goals in the loss for the `Hounds. Loyola falls to 2-1 on the season with the loss while UNC improves to 3-0 with the victory.

The Tarheels got an early 1-0 lead with a goal by Jess Allen 2:20 into the game. Kate McHarg answered less than two minutes later with a goal, assisted by Stephanie Walker for the 1-1 tie. UNC scored the next two goals to take a 3-1 lead after 10 minutes of play. McHarg pulled the Greyhounds within a goal with her second marker at 11:42 before the Tar Heels nabbed the last goal of the first half after 15:12 of play for a 4-2 halftime lead.

UNC scored four of the first five goals in the second half to take an 8-3 lead in the first 11:11. Maura Kenny scored the Greyhounds goal at 33:17. After McHarg scored again for Loyola to cut it to 8-4, Carolina scored four goals in the last five minutes of action to make the final score 12-4.

Loyola freshman Alex Piraino made her first collegiate appearance for Loyola and recorded 10 saves. UNC's Kristen Hordy stopped four Greyhound shots.

The Greyhounds return to Diane Geppi-Aikens Field on Wednesday, March 8 when they host Princeton at 4:00 p.m.
