Women's Basketball to Host Delaware at Home

About Todays's Game
Today, the 3-3 Greyhounds will host the 6-1 Delaware Fighting Blue Hens. This will be the last home game for over a month for Loyola. The Greyhounds will travel to Georgetown, Lafayette, UMBC and Siena before returning to Reitz Arena on Friday, January 16 to face MAAC opponent Canisius in a double-header for Loyola. The men will face Niagara at the conclusion of the women's game.

The Series
Delaware holds a 1-10 advantage over Loyola with the only Greyhound win coming in the 1981-82 season by a score of 64-63. The last time the two teams met, the Blue Hens won by a score of 79-63 in the 1990-91 season.

Greyhounds Last Time Out
COLLEGE PARK, MD- Maryland had five players in double figures en route to a 76-61 victory over Loyola on Wednesday night in women's basketball action at Comcast Center. The Greyhounds fall to 3-3 on the season while the Terrapins improved to 6-1 overall.

Loyola took an early 4-3 lead before Maryland responded by going an 11-0 run to go ahead 14-4. Five different players scored during that span as the Terps never trailed the rest of the way.

Keyed by five points from Lauren Troupe, the Greyhounds came to within 21-20 with 4:36 left in the first half after trailing 20-11. But Anesia Smith's bucket with less than two minutes to play in the period capped a 13-2 Maryland run, giving it a 12-point lead, 34-22. Maryland's biggest margin of the half came with 18 seconds left, 39-26, but Robbyn Poole hit a free throw bring the lead back to 12 at the break, 39-27.

The Terps scored six unanswered points to open the the second half, taking a commanding 45-27 advantage and forcing Loyola to take a timeout with 18:14 left in the game. Troupe hit a jumper coming out of the timeout, but Maryland scored a quick five points to give the Terp their first 20-point lead of the game, 50-29.

The Greyhounds never got closer than 11 with 4:48, but Maryland pushed the lead back up in the closing minutes to end the game by the final margin of 76-61.

Guards Lindsay Cobb and Krystle Harrington both had 13 points to lead Loyola. Troupe akso added nine points and five rebounds. Freshman Jill Glessner pulled down a career-high seven rebounds and added two points, three assists and a steal.

Maryland was lead by Crystal Washington and Shay Doron with 14 points. Washington also added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Kalika France added 12 points, Chrissy Fisher 11 and Smith had 10 points and seven assists.

Loyola shot an impressive 47.1 percent on the night, much better than their average 38.4 percent.

Maryland extends its win streak over Loyola to five games, improving its series lead to 11-3.

Scouting Report: The Fighting Blue Hens
Delaware is led by junior Tiara Malcom who averages 15.6 points and 6.9 rebounds a game. She is followed by classmates Tiffany Young with 12.3 points and 6.7 rebounds and Julie Sailer with 11.1 points and 5.0 rebounds. Leading the Blue Hens on the boards is senior Tracey Howell with an average of eight per game.

For The Greyhounds
Loyola is led by sophomore Lauren Troupe with 12.2 points per game off the bench. Troupe is followed by Katie Scherle, who is averaging 8.8 points and 7.5 rebounds. Guards Krystle Harrington and Lindsay Cobb follow Troupe and Scherle with 8.3 and 7.7 points per game respectively. Troupe is second in rebounds at 5.7 and is followed by Kerri-Lynn Orsini with 4.8 boards per game. Cobb and Harrington are tied in the assist column with 3/3 a game a piece. Harrington also has 15 steals for a team high 2.5 per game. Jackie Valderas leads the Greyhounds in blocked shots with 1.3 per game.
