Women's Basketball Opens MAAC Schedule This Weekend

Baltimore, Md. - This weekend the Greyhounds (3-4) open their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule, visiting Marist (5-2) on Friday and Rider (0-5) on Sunday. Loyola is currently on a two-game win streak and look to extend that streak with wins over the Red Foxes and the Broncs.

Loyola is currently led in scoring (16.1), rebounding (7.6) and assists (4.8) by senior Jill Glessner. Classmate Brittany Dunn follows with 10.6 points and leads the team in steals with 12 this season. Junior Meghan Wood is third at 9.4 points and is second in rebounding at 6.3 a game. Tynisha Davis is fourth in scoring at 7.4 points while the remaining Greyhounds average between 6.3 points and 1.2 points per game.

Marist holds a 19-11 advantage in the series with Loyola. The last time they met was in the 2006 MAAC championship game where the Red Foxes won 68-57. The teams split the regular season series in 2005-06 with both squads earning W's on their home court.

Rachel Fitz currently leads Marist in scoring with an average of 13.7 points per game. She's followed by Meg Dahlman at 12.4 points and a team-high 6.6 boards a game. Sarah Smrdel is third with 8.9 points while Julianne Viani adds 8.7 and Nikki Flores contributes 8.3 points per game. Alisa Kresge leads the team in assists with 5.6 a game.

Besides their common MAAC opponents, Loyola and Marist have the potential to face two other common opponents this season. The Red Foxes have already faced Villanova and lost in OT 69-64 while the Greyhounds play `Nova just after the holiday on Dec. 28. Meanwhile, Loyola hosts the defending national champion Maryland Terrapins on Dec. 21 and Marist has the potential to face the Terps in the Terrapin Classic on Dec. 30.

Loyola holds a 19-7 advantage over Rider and swept the Broncs in regular season play in 2005-06. The last Rider win came in the first round of the 2005 MAAC Championship by a score of 60-58.

Janele Henderson is currently the only Rider player in double-digits with 14.2 points per game. Shaunice Parker follows at an even nine points per game. Seven other Rider players range in scoring from 7.8 points per game to 4.3 points per game. Kara Borel is one of those players and she averages a team-high four rebounds a game.

Besides their common MAAC opponents, Loyola and Rider have three common non-conference opponents. The Greyhounds have already faced UMBC (L, 58-56) and Towson (LOT, 75-73) while the Broncs face the Retrievers on the 19th and the Tigers on the 22nd. Rider has already faced Penn and lost 77-65 while Loyola and the Quakers will meet in Reitz Arena on New Year's Eve.
