Women's Basketball Travels to Maryland

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola College women's basketball team will take on No. 22 Maryland Tuesday night at the ComCast Center. The Greyhounds are looking for their first win over the season after falling to Delaware in the home opener and American in overtime last Friday. The Terrapins are 3-1 to date this season.

Maryland holds an 11-3 advantage in the series between the two squads. The teams first met in 1973-74 but didn't face each other again until the 1990-91 season and have met nearly every season since. The last Loyola victory was in '88 while the Terps defeated the `Hounds 76-61on December 10, 2003.

Loyola is currently led by sophomore Jill Glessner with 11.5 points per game. She has led the Greyhounds in both contests this season with 10 against Delaware and 13 at American. She is followed by Krystle Harrington with an average of 10 points per game. Katie Scherle is third in scoring (eight points a game) but leads the Greyhounds on the boards at five rebounds a game.

Maryland is also led by a sophomore, Shay Doron with 17.8 points per game. Doron is also a former high school teammate of Loyola's Tynisha Davis. Tonight's game will be the first time they face each other as well as the first time Loyola's Vanessa Ruffin will face her former Maryland teammates after transferring to Loyola last season.

After returning from College Park, Loyola will play two early Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference games by traveling to Canisius and Niagara this weekend.
