Loyola's women's basketball team is back in action Tuesday night after over a week off. The Greyhounds travel to visit Long Island University and are looking for their first win of the season.
The Blackbirds are 1-3 on the season and 0-2 at home to date. LIU has fallen to Stanford (69-28), Lafayette (63-48) and Cal Poly (72-68) while defeating San Francisco (61-46). The Blackbirds were selected ninth in the NEC pre-season conference poll.
LIU is currently lead by senior guard Amber Wirth's 13 points. She is followed by junior Sara Oblak with 8.5 points a game and a team-high 5.8 rebounds a contests. Junior Marquita Thompson is not far off at 7.0 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game. Rounding out the leading scorers is senior Polona Oberc with 6.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and a team-high 2.5 assists a game.
The Greyhounds are still looking for their first win of the season after close losses to VCU (65-62) and Hartford (59-52).
Loyola is currently led by junior guard Brittany Dunn's 14.5 points a game. Also averaging double-figures is senior forward Katie Scherle with 11.5 points per game off the bench. Junior Jill Glessner is leading on the boards with an even six a game with an average of seven points a contest. Following Glessner in both categories is senior Jackie Valderas with 6.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
