EDISON, N.J. - Loyola University Maryland women's basketball freshman Kara Marshall was named MAAC Rookie of the Week for the week ending November 20, as announced by the conference office Monday.
Marshall, who earned her first conference honor of her career and the first for a Loyola player this season, led all scorers with 19 points on 6-for-12 shooting, hitting two 3-pointers while making her first career start in a 65-59 loss at Pittsburgh. The freshman also had two assists and two steals in 32 minutes of action. Marshall went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line and helped lead a furious Loyola comeback, trimming a 21-point deficit down to three over the final 3:30 of the game.
The Gaithersburg, Md., native scored nine points and had two steals during the final run by the Greyhounds, as Loyola outscored the Panthers 21-6 in the final three and a half minutes of the contest. Loyola outscored Pitt 52-45 with Marshall on the floor.
Loyola is back in action at home on Tuesday night when the Greyhounds host local rival UMBC at 7 p.m. at Reitz Arena.
