The Loyola College women's basketball team plays its first games in Baltimore this week, first traveling to UMBC on Friday and then hosting Hartford on Sunday.
ABOUT THE `HOUNDS
After splitting their opening weekend, the Greyhounds are 1-1. Loyola opened with a 75-69 loss at Columbia but followed it up with a 66-57 win at Drexel. Four players average double-figures led by senior Jill Glessner's 18 points. She also averages a team-high 6.5 rebounds. Junior Tynisha Davis follows with 13.5 points while classmate Meghan Wood sits at 13 points and is second in boards with six a game. Rounding out the top scorers, Brittany Dunn averages an even 12 points a game.
SERIES RECORD VS. UMBC Loyola holds a 20-9 advantage in the series with the Retrievers. The Greyhounds have won the last nine straight meetings with the last win coming on January 3, 2004 by a score of 72-50. The last UMBC win was during the 1989-90 season by a score of 62-48.
SCOUTING THE RETRIEVERS UMBC is currently 0-2 after losses to George Washington (72-58) and Coppin State (59-48). Brittnie Hughes is currently leading the team in scoring with 12 points a game and in assists with four a game. Sharrie Rohde averages a near double-double with 10.5 points and 9.5 rebounds a game.
SERIES RECORD VS. HARTFORD Loyola and Hartford have met just once in the history of the two teams with Hartford winning that contest 59-52 on 11/20/05.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS Hartford is 1-1 on the season after a win over Dartmouth (62-45) and a loss to Purdue (83-51). Ikea Witt averages a team-high 9.5 points a game. Erica Beverly added nine points and seven rebounds a game. Both Katie Kelley and Jamie McCabe average a close eight points a game.
