Baltimore, Md. - Ashley Alexander (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) signed her letter of intent to join the Loyola College women's basketball team for the 2005-06 season Wednesday morning.
Alexander, a 5-10 guard, helped her Paint Branch squad to the 2004 Maryland championship in her junior year. That season she was named first-team all Montgomery County, first-team all-Montgomery County Journal and second-team all-Metro by the Washington Post. She averaged 18.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and5.9 steals last season.
"Ashley is a tremendous athlete and is heralded from one of the top high school programs in the country," said head Coach Candy Cage. "She fits well in our system and is used to winning. We are extremely pleased that she has chosen Loyola."
Alexander will join fellow Paint Branch alum and former teammate, Krystle Harrington on the Loyola squad. This season, Harrington is a junior captain of the Greyhounds. She was named a pre-season third-team all-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selection. Harrington played the most minutes on the team as the point guard in 2003-04 and averaged 8.7 points, 3.6 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 2.2 steals.
The Greyhounds were selected as the pre-season MAAC favorite and begin their season on Sunday, November 21 at Delaware. Game-time is set for 1:00.
