CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Senior Colleen Marshall was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team and the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team was picked to finish eighth in the League's preseason poll, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Marshall and Army West Point senior Kelsey Minato, who was voted the 2015-16 Preseason Patriot League Player of the Year, were the only guards to pick up the preseason honors, while three forwards rounded out the five-member team: Holy Cross senior Raquel Scott, Lehigh junior Lexi Martins and Bucknell junior Claire DeBoer.
An All-Patriot League Second Team honoree a year ago, Marshall led the League and ranked 33rd in the NCAA in steals with 2.59 per game. In contributing 13.4 points per game, she ranked seventh in the Patriot League in scoring and also led the Greyhounds in field goals made (135), 3-point field goals made (44) and free throws made (75).
On five occasions, the Gaithersburg, Maryland, native scored 20-plus points; that tally includes 35 against Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, to become the first player since Patty Stoffey (1991-95), Loyola's all-time leading scorer, to record as many as 35 points in a game. She also became the first Greyhound since Jennifer Mitchell in 2001 to score 30-plus points in a single contest. In going 7-of-11 from 3-point range against the Terriers, Marshall tied Nicole Krusen's 2013 school record for the most 3-pointers in a game.
Army West Point was picked to win the League title, collecting 13 first-place votes. The Black Knights totaled 155 points to outdistance second-place College of the Holy Cross, which had 130 points and two first-place votes.
Lehigh University was picked to finish third with 127 points and three first-place votes, while Bucknell University (119 points) and American University (111) split the remaining first-place votes and were slotted for fourth and fifth, respectively.
The United States Naval Academy (83), Colgate University (55), Loyola (47), Lafayette (43) and Boston University (30) rounded out the preseason poll.
The Greyhounds open the 2015-16 season on Friday, Nov. 13, at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET.
