BALTIMORE - The Loyola College women's basketball team will host 14 home games at Reitz Arena and play a total of 28 regular-season contests, Head Coach Joe Logan announced today.

"I believe this schedule is one that will test us considerably, and at the same time, it is going to be very exciting for fans," Logan said. "This will prepare us for a very difficult MAAC schedule with playing Maryland and George Washington, two teams that are top-20 level."

The Greyhounds start the 2008-2009 campaign on Saturday, November 15, when they face Harvard in the USF Shootout in Tampa, Fla. Loyola will then take on either South Florida or Central Connecticut State the following day.

Loyola will play the first of 14 home contests on Wednesday, November 19, against local rival Towson. The Greyhounds will play two other teams from the Baltimore-metro area in 2008-2009 - at home versus Mount St. Mary's on Monday, December 1, and at UMBC on Sunday, December 21.

Following the Towson game, the Greyhounds will travel to West Point, N.Y. for their first-ever game against the U.S. Military Academy on Sunday, November 23.

After a hiatus for the Thanksgiving holiday, Coach Logan's team returns to the court on Saturday, November 29 at home against Bucknell.

The Greyhounds play Mount St. Mary's two days later, then open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play on the road, traveling to Manhattan on Friday, December 5. Loyola hosts Rider in its first MAAC home contest of the season on Sunday, December 7.

Loyola will host 2006 NCAA Champions Maryland on Tuesday, December 9, the Greyhounds final game prior to final exams.

The Greyhounds return to the court on Friday, December 19, to face La Salle before playing a pre-Christmas cross-town game at UMBC.

Loyola returns from break on Saturday, December 27, with a game at George Washington, the Greyhounds' final non-conference contest of the season.

Fairfield hosts Loyola on Sunday, January 4, beginning the main conference stretch of the season, which culminates on Senior Day, Saturday, February 28, against Siena.

The women's basketball program will host several exciting events for fans this season, including the game against Maryland.

On Friday, January 9, Loyola will play a 11 a.m. game against Saint Peter's on Field Trip Day, an opportunity for area school-age children to come to Reitz Arena, learn about fitness and healthy lifestyles, and cheer on the Greyhounds.

Women In Sports Day returns to the College on Sunday, February 15. The Greyhounds host Manhattan at 12 p.m. in a game that celebrates women and girls in sports and their contributions to athletics.

The Greyhounds will also host two "Rec Council Days," games specifically designed to bring youth teams to the games on Friday, January 30, versus Iona and Friday, February 13, against Niagara.

Loyola's game against Niagara will also be played in front of a national ESPNU audience.

Throughout the season, Loyola women's basketball will raise funds for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund through the Women's Basketball Coaches Association PinkZone program. The campaign will come to a conclusion at the final home game, against Siena on Saturday, February 28. The game will also be Girl Scouts Day in Reitz Arena.

The Greyhounds will travel to the 2009 MAAC Championships in Albany, N.Y., following the regular-season. The Times-Union Center will again host the event, March 5-8, 2009.
