BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland women's basketball will host seven-straight home games in the month of December, as a part of a 15-game home schedule during the 2014-15 season, Head Coach Joe Logan announced.
"I believe we have put together another challenging non-conference schedule that will prepare us to compete in the Patriot League," Logan said. "Our philosophy when scheduling opponents is to challenge our players, as well as give them experiences which we hope they can remember for a lifetime. We scheduled eight teams with post-season experience, and we hope that fans will take advantage of the opportunity to experience some great Division I basketball at Reitz Arena this season."
Four of Loyola's 11 non-conference games will be against teams that qualified for postseason play last year, including one NCAA Final Four team.
The Greyhounds open the season by renewing a series with the College of William and Mary on Friday, Nov. 14. This will be the first trip to Kaplan Arena for Logan since visiting Williamsburg, Virginia, as an assistant coach in 2001.
Loyola stays on the road for the month of November, but this time traveling only across town to face local non-conference rival, UMBC, Sunday, Nov. 19. The Retrievers and Greyhounds continue a series that dates back to 1973. Three days later, Loyola visits Georgetown University for the first time since 2003.
On Monday, Nov. 24, the Greyhounds set off to the XFINITY Center, to take on the University of Maryland. The Terrapins qualified for their 11-straight postseason, after going 28-7 last season and advanced to the NCAA Final Four.
After Thanksgiving break, Loyola takes on Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) foe University of Pittsburgh Sunday, Nov. 30.
The Greyhounds play all seven games in the month of December inside the confines of Reitz Arena. Four of the seven contests will be against teams that played in the 2014 Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). The four squads combined for a record of 88-42 during the 2013-14 campaign.
Towson University makes the short trip to the Evergreen Campus Thursday, Dec. 4, before the Greyhounds host a men's and women's doubleheader against Mount St. Mary's University the following Saturday. The Mount and the Greyhounds will host the series doubleheader for the second time in two years.
For the first time in program history, Loyola will host East Carolina University (Tuesday, Dec. 9), before welcoming Saint Peter's University (Thursday, Dec. 20), and Cornell University (Saturday, Dec. 22). After returning from the holiday break, Loyola closes out the non-conference schedule with a home contest against George Washington University on Sunday, Dec. 28.
Patriot League action begins on New Year's Eve when the Greyhounds host the 2014 regular season champions, the United States Naval Academy, in Reitz Arena.
Three days later, the defending Patriot League Tournament champion, the United States Military Academy hosts Loyola in West Point, New York, on Saturday, Jan. 3. The Greyhounds return to Maryland, this time visiting Washington, D.C., to take on American University on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
The Greyhounds have a brief two-game homestand with contests against Lehigh University Saturday, Jan. 10, and Lafayette College Wednesday, Jan. 14, before heading to back-to-back road games versus Boston University (Saturday, Jan. 17), and Bucknell University (Wednesday, Jan. 21).
Colgate University travels to Baltimore Saturday, Jan. 24, before Loyola heads north to Worcester, Massachusetts, for a matchup with the 2014 Patriot League runner-up, College of the Holy Cross, on Wednesday, Jan. 28. A home contest against Army on Saturday, Jan. 31, rounds out the first month of action in 2015.
American will make an appearance in Reitz Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 4, before the Greyhounds travel to the Lehigh Valley for a pair of games Saturday, Feb. 7 (Lehigh), and Wednesday, Feb. 11 (Lafayette).
Loyola will host Boston University on Valentine's Day, staying at home for the week to play Bucknell the following Wednesday, Feb. 18.
The Greyhounds take a quick one-game trip to Colgate on Saturday, Feb. 21, before hosting their final regular-season game against Holy Cross on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
Loyola closes out its regular-season schedule on the road against Navy, Saturday, Feb. 28. Patriot League tournament action begins Wednesday, March 4, with first round action. The quarterfinals continue Friday, March 6, followed by Monday, March 9's semifinal.
The League champion will be crowned before a national television audience on CBS Sports Network on Saturday, March 14. All 10 Patriot League teams will advance to tournament play with the highest seed hosting in a matchup hosting each game.
