BALTIMORE - Former Loyola University Maryland women’s basketball guard Katie Sheahin has signed a professional contract with the Giro Live Panthers and will begin her post-collegiate career in Germany’s Division I League.
Sheahin, who graduated from Loyola in May 2013 with a degree in business, led the Greyhounds to their first post-season victory in program history during the 2011 Women’s National Invitation Tournament. Her three-point basket with just over three seconds left in regulation lifted the Greyhounds over Old Dominion, 67-65.
A two-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference defensive player of the year and three-time All-MAAC performer, Sheahin finished her career third on Loyola’s all-time points’ list with 1,513, and first in steals with 347. Sheahin shattered the steals record by more than 90 thefts before hanging up her green and grey uniform.
Giro Live, which is located in the city of Osnaburck, Germany, finished the 2012-13 season with a 16-13-1 record and made it to the semifinals of the league playoff.
Sheahin joins Miriam McKenzie, Erica DiClemente, Vika Sholokhova, Siobhan Prior and current Greyhound assistant coach Jill Glessner as players coached by Joe Logan who have continued their basketball careers professionally. Glessner spent time in England and Norway, DiClemente had a stint in the Czech Republic, Prior played in England, and most recently McKenzie spent a season in Finland. Sholokhova is playing for BK Dynamo in Moscow, Russia.
