BALTIMORE, MD (June 30)-- Vanessa Ruffin, a former standout at Hagerstown's Broadfording Christian Academy, has decided to transfer to Loyola College from the University of Maryland and join the women's basketball program. Ruffin is a 6-4 post player who will add depth to the Greyhound lineup.
Ruffin spent one season with the Terps in which she appeared in seven games averaging five minutes per appearance. In those games, she scored 14 points for an average of two points and 1.1 rebounds a game. Before attending Maryland, Ruffin was a standout at Broadfording Christian Academy where she scored over 2,300 points and recorded more than 1,100 rebounds in her career. Ruffin was honored throughout her career with nearly every private and Christian school basketball award possible including two Private School Player of the year awards. She was also named the Washington County Player of the Year in 2002 and received all-county honors in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
Ruffin will practice with the Loyola women's basketball team in the 2003-04 season but will not be eligible to play until the 2004-05 season due to the NCAA Year-In-Residence Policy.
