Candy Cage Will Not Return As Women's Basketball Coach

March 26, 2005

Baltimore, Md. - Women's basketball coach Candy Cage will not return to Loyola College next season. Cage and Loyola have reached a mutual agreement and a search for a new coach will begin immediately.

"We thank Candy Cage for her four years of service to the women's basketball program," says Loyola Athletic Director Joe Boylan. "She brought a tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm to the team and we wish her the best of luck in the future."

Cage came to Loyola after five years at Georgia Tech. She was promoted to associated head coach with the Yellow Jackets in 1999 and helped the program sign nine All-Americas as recruiting coordinator. At Loyola Cage led the Greyhounds to a 5-13 conference record in her first season, a 7-11 MAAC mark in 2002-03 and 9-9 MAAC records each of the past two seasons. The Greyhounds won 47 games in her four seasons at the helm.

Cage was the 10th women's basketball coach in Loyola's program history and is fourth on the all-time wins list. Pat Coyle, who served as head coach from 1992 to 1998 has 100 career wins - the most of any Loyola women's basketball coach.
