Baltimore, Md. - Loyola University Maryland's women's basketball team received word late Monday night that it had received its first-ever berth in the Women's National Invitation Tournament. The Greyhounds will play at Old Dominion on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
This is only the third postseason berth for Loyola's women's basketball program and the first since participating in consecutive NCAAs following back-to-back MAAC Tournament titles in 1994-1995.
This year's team enters the postseason with a 20-12 overall record. Loyola finished the MAAC season with a 15-3 second-place finish, trailing behind only nationally ranked Marist, which went 18-0 in league play. The Red Foxes topped the Greyhounds in the MAAC Championship game on March 7 to receive the conference's automatic bid.
The winner of the game between the Greyhounds and the Monarchs will play the winner of the Morgan State-Virginia contest which will take place Thursday in Charlottesville, Va.
