Troupe and Valderas Earn Spots on the MAAC All-Academic Team

Baltimore, Md. - Seniors Lauren Troupe and Jackie Valderas were two of 54 student-athletes named to the 2006 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's basketball All-Academic Team. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution, be a significant starter or reserve and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

Valderas, who also earned the Sixth Player of the Year award for the second straight year, averaged 9.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.6 blocks a game. She led her team in both rebounds and blocks while ranking third in scoring. Valderas led the league in field-goal percentage, shooting an impressive 53.5% from the floor. She also ranked second in free-throw percentage among MAAC players at 84.7%. This season she recorded double-figures in 14 games while posting double-figures in rebounds three times. This season, her 48 blocks helped the Greyhounds to break the school record for blocks in a season. Valderas finishes her college career with 821 points, 545 rebounds, 128 blocks, 91 assists and 73 steals in 115 games.

Troupe has had her best season yet as a Greyhound this year, posting a team-best 10.7 points per game and a team-second 5.6 rebounds a game. She was named first-team all-conference for her efforts. Troupe led the team in scoring in 10 games this season, scoring a season-high of 21 points at home against Iona. She scored double-digit in 17 of 30 games while recording four double-doubles on the season. Troupe leads the league in free-throw percentage at 85.5% percent, is 12th in the conference in scoring and 10th in rebounding. Troupe finished her career at Loyola with 905 points, 498 rebounds, 119 assists, 50 steals and 32 blocks in 109 games with 75 starts.
