Scherle Named Second Team All-Conference

BALTIMORE, MD - Sophomore Katie Scherle was named to the 2003-04 All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference second team Monday as announce by the conference office. The selections are made my MAAC coaches.

The 2002-03 MAAC Rookie of the Year, Scherle has led the Greyhounds in scoring and rebounding for much of the season. Scherle currently averages a team-high 11.3 points and six rebounds per game. She has scored in the double-digits in 16 games for the Greyhounds this season, leading the team in scoring in 11 games.

Scherle, a pre-season second-team selection, hit a career-high with 25 points against Canisius this season by shooting 11-for-12 from the floor and hitting 3-of-4 from the line. Scherle has also hit double digits in the rebounding column four times this season with a career-high of 13 against Niagara in the same weekend. Scherle was awarded the MAAC Player of the Week award after her performances against the Golden Griffs and the Purple Eagles.

First -team selections were Jenel Stevens (Canisius), Michelle Fahy (Iona), Rosalee Mason (Manhattan), Colleen Toetz (Niagara) and Jolene Johnston (Siena). Joining Scherle on the second-team is Lonnie Brown (Canisius), Stephanie Del Preore (Marist), Maureen Magarity (Marist), Eva Cunningham (Niagara), Lindsay Gonzalez (Saint Peter's). Named to the third team was, Janelle McManus (Fairfield), Leanne Moore (Rider), Tanesha Seaton (Saint Peter's), Liene Jansone (Siena) and Natalie Marchino (Siena).

Scherle and the Greyhounds will face Rider in the first round of the MAAC Tournament on Thursday, March 4 at noon.
