EDISON, N.J. - Loyola freshman forward Meredith Tolley was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's Rookie of the Week for her performances in two games over the weekend, the conference office announced today.
Tolley averaged 15 points and five rebounds in games against Niagara and Canisius. She shot over 57-percent from the field and made 5-of-10 3-point attempts in the games.
On Friday night at Niagara, Tolley led Loyola in scoring, setting a career-high in the process. She was 5-of-9 from the field, made 3-of-6 threes and finished 7-of-8 at the free-throw line to score 20 points.
She also had six rebounds, two assists and two steals against the Purple Eagles.
Tolley scored 18 of her points in the second half against Niagara, marking the most points a Loyola player has scored in a half this season.
On Sunday at Canisius, Tolley scored 10 points and blocked two shots. She also had four rebounds versus the Golden Griffins.
Tolley's 15 points per game average more than tripled her season average entering the weekend. She is now averaging 5.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
She has started the last 10 games for Loyola and is second on the team during that stretch with a averages of 9.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Tolley is shooting 48.5-percent from the field and 39.3-percent from 3-point range during that stretch.
Loyola finishes its regular-season schedule on Saturday, March 1, when it hosts Fairfield at 2 p.m. The Greyhounds will then travel to the MAAC Championships in Albany, N.Y., that begins March 6.
