Baltimore, Md. - Junior center Vika Sholokhova was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. Sholokhova helped the Greyhounds to a 2-0 week with wins over Saint Peter's and Rider. The wins boosted Loyola's record to 15-9 overall and 10-4 in the MAAC, putting the Greyhounds in second place in the league.
Sholokhova earned the honor after averaging a double-double this week. She scored 20 points to lead the team over Saint Peter's while adding 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Sholokhova added 14 points and eight boards against Rider while dishing out five assists and nabbing three steals. For the week she averaged 17 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 steals and one block while shooting 51.8% from the field, 50% from three-point range and 100% from the free-throw line. Sholokhova is currently second on the team in scoring with an average of 11.5 points per game and leads in rebounds with 7.6 an outing.
Sholokhova and the Greyhounds take on the conference leaders, Marist this Friday, February 16 at home. Tip-off is set for 7:00.
