Women's Basketball Visits Manhattan

Feb. 2, 2005

Baltimore, Md. - The Greyhounds are looking to break a two-game losing streak while facing Manhattan on the road Thursday night. Loyola is currently in fifth place in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with a 6-4 conference record while the Jaspers are in eighth at 4-6.

Manhattan leads 19-11 in the series between these two teams that began in 1990. Over the past four seasons, one team has swept the series. In the 2000-01 season, Loyola won both MAAC contests while Manhattan won four straight with the series in the 2001-02 season and 2002-03 season. Last season, the Greyhounds won both contests, 61-50 at home at 60-59 at Draddy Gym. That win at Draddy Gym was a first for Loyola head coach Candy Cage.

Katie Scherle continues to lead Loyola with 10.6 points and 6.7 rebounds a game. She is followed by classmate Krystle Harrington with 9.6 points and 4.2 assists a game. Lauren Troupe is next in line with 8.9 points and a second-best 5.1 rebounds. Jackie Valderas rounds out the top scorers with 7.9 points and 4.8 rebounds.

Manhattan is currently 8-11 overall while posting a 4-6 record in the MAAC. The Jaspers are, most recently, coming off a 65-60 win over Siena at home.

The Jaspers are led by seniors Serra Sangar with 15 points and 6.1 rebounds a game and Donnette Reed's 11.9 points, 4.1 assists and 3.1 steals a game.
