EDISON, N.J. - After averaging 21.5 points and 2.5 steals in two games over the weekend, freshman point guard Kara Marshall was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday.
It is the second Rookie of the Week honor for Marshall, giving the Greyhounds back-to-back weeks with recognition from the conference office after Miriam McKenzie was named Player of the Week last week.
Marshall paced the Greyhound offense in a 1-1 road weekend in Buffalo, N.Y., averaging 21.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 assists in 36.5 minutes of action. The Gaithersburg, Md., native also hit 15 of her 28 field goal attempts (53.6-percent), including seven-of-17 from 3-point range (41.2-percent).
Marshall started the weekend with a career-high 21 points to go with four steals in a loss at Canisius. She followed that by once again setting a career-high with 22 points on eight-of-12 shooting while hitting five 3-pointers in a win at Niagara. Marshall also had four rebounds in the game and hit 75-percent of her free-throw attempts over the weekend. Overall she accounted for 43 of Loyola’ 123 points for the weekend (35-percent).
The Greyhounds return home on Thursday, Feb. 2, to take on Canisius at 7 p.m. at Reitz Arena.
