Women's Basketball Set to Travel to Marist and Iona

This Weekend's Games
Over the next four days Loyola will travel to Marist (Jan. 29) and Iona (Jan. 31) for two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchups. The Greyhounds have faced Iona once at home already this season but have not seen the Red Foxes' in action.

The Series vs. Marist
Against Marist, Loyola is one win shy of tying the series, 11-10. The last Greyhound victory came in the early 2002-03 season.

The Series vs. Iona
The Greyhounds hold a 24-8 advantage against the Gaels although Iona defeated Loyola at home earlier this season by a score of 69-66.

Greyhounds Last Time Out
BRIDGEPORT, CT- Loyola was unable to overcome four Fairfield University women's basketball players netting double figures in a 66-58 loss, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game at the Arena at Harbor Yard, on Sunday afternoon.

In the first half, the Greyhounds went on a 10-1 run, and held the Stags scoreless for close to eight minutes to take an 18-11 lead with 8:30 left until halftime. Lauren Troupe nailed two of her game-high four three point baskets in the run. Fairfield ended the Loyola run with a 3-pointer by Schrene Isidora at the 5:21 mark to cut the lead to 18-14.

Isidora's three sparked the Stags to a 9-2 run, which tied the ballgame at 20-20, with 2:48 left in the half. The two teams would trade made free throws, and the Greyhounds would head into the locker room with a 24-22 lead.

In the second half, there were three ties before the first media time out at the 14:19 mark, as both teams couldn't gain an advantage. However, the Stags were able to gain the momentum, with the score 42-40, a Dash put back would ignite a 15-4 run that would give Fairfield a 55-46 lead at the 5:06 mark of the second stanza.

The Greyhounds (8-9, 4-4 MAAC) were led by Troupe who posted a game-high 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field, while grabbing eight rebounds. Katie Scherle added six points and grabbed 11 boards.

Cathy Dash and Candice Lindsay led the way for Fairfield (5-13, 3-5 MAAC) with 12 points apiece. Janelle McManus chipped in with 11 points, on 7-of-9 from the free throw line. Isidora added 10 points and five rebounds.Fairfield went to the charity stripe 37 times in Sunday's contest to Loyola nine. The Stags made 25 of those attempts.

Scouting Report: The Red Foxes'
Marist is led by senior Stephanie Del Preore with 12.4 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Maureen Magarity is second with 12.1 points and 4.9 rebounds. Nina Vecchio leads in the assist column with 3.4 per game.

Scouting Report: The Gaels
Iona is led by senior Michelle Fahy with 17.6 points per game. She is followed by freshman Meg Abele with 10.7 points per game. Toni Horvath leads in the assists column at 3.6 while Sheena Howard is on top of the rebounds at 6.0.

Besides their MAAC opponents, Loyola and Iona have both faced UMBC and Bucknell. The Greyhounds defeated both opponents while Iona defeated the Retrievers (64-43) and lost to Bucknell (86-76).

For The Greyhounds
Loyola is currently led by Katie Scherle with 11.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. She is followed in both categories by Lauren Troupe at 10.9 and 5.4 respectively. In the points column, guards Krystle Harrington and Lindsay Cobb are third and fourth with 7.6 and 6.9 points per game respectively. On the boards, Jill Glessner is third with 3.3 per game each. In the assist column, Cobb leads with 3.9 a game. She is followed by Harrington with 3.5. Harrington is on top of steals with 2.4 per game while Valderas is at the top of blocked shots with 0.9 per game.

Scherle is currently shooting a team-best .507 from the floor while Troupe is tops for the charity stripe at .765. Jill Henn is best from three-point range at .275.
