Baltimore, Md. - Junior forward Meghan Wood was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's Player of the Week for women's basketball as announced by the conference office Monday. Wood earned the honor for the first time in her career after scoring 16 points in back-to-back wins over Niagara and Manhattan and adding 11 rebounds against the Jaspers for her second career double-double.
Wood tied her career-high with 16 points in a 91-53 win over Niagara Friday night. She added five rebounds, an assist and a block while shooting 87.5% from the floor. Wood again tied her career-high with 16 points to lead the `Hounds over Manhattan 61-45. She added 11 rebounds for her second career double-double. Wood also registered a block and steal against the Jaspers. For the week, she averaged 16 points and eight rebounds while shooting 73.7% from the field and 80% from the free-throw line. Wood now ranks second on the team in scoring at 10.1 points and in rebounding at 6.7 boards an outing.
The Greyhounds, who have won their last four games and seven of their last eight outings, are in third place in the conference with an 11-7 overall record and a 6-2 conference mark. Loyola hosts second place Iona Thursday night at Reitz Arena.
