BALTIMORE, MD - Loyola College earned two of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's weekly awards, announced by the conference office Monday. Sophomore Katie Scherle was named Co-Player of the Week while freshman Brittany Dunn earned Co-Rookie of the Week. Both shared the award with Siena players.
Scherle, a forward, scored a career high of 25 points against Canisius and completed her third double-double of the season against Niagara with 22 points and 13 rebounds. In this weekend's wins over the two Buffalo based squads, Scherle averaged 23.5 points and 7.5 boards. This is her first MAAC award of the 2003-04 season after winning the Rookie of the Year title at the conclusion of the 2002-03 season. She currently leads the Greyhounds in scoring (11.5) and rebounding (5.5). She shares this weeks award with Siena's Liene Jansone.
Dunn, a freshman guard, was selected after averaging 7.5, four rebounds, 1.5 assists and one steal over this weekends contests. She shot perfect 5-for-5 from the field over the two games and leads her class in scoring. She is sixth overall on the team with 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds. This is Dunn's first MAAC award of her career and she shares the honor with Siena's Katelyn Dooley.
The Greyhounds went 2-0 this week with victories over Canisius (88-76) and Niagara (60-49). Loyola is now 8-7 on the season and 4-2 in the conference which puts them in third place.
Loyola will face Saint Peter's and Fairfield this coming weekend as a part of a four game road swing. The Greyhounds will visit the Pea Hens on Friday, Jan. 23 and the Stags on Sunday, Jan. 25.
