BALTIMORE - Former Loyola University Maryland women’s basketball guard Miriam McKenzie has signed a professional contract with Boa Viagem-Angra-Acore and will continue her post-collegiate career in Portugal’s Division I League.
Prior to joining Boa Viagem-Angra-Acore, McKenzie played for PeKa in the Finnish professional league from 2012-16. During that time, the 2012 Loyola graduate led PeKa to the title game of the 2013 Finnish league.
Last year, McKenzie earned Latinbasket.com All-CBC Championship Second Team honors. A dual citizen of the United States and Guyana, McKenzie represented Guyana at the CBC Championships in the British Virgin Islands. At the games, she averaged 24.4 points per game, 11.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 4.4 steals.
As a Greyhound, McKenzie finished her career fifth on Loyola’s all-time scoring list with 1,398 points and seventh on the all-time rebounding list with 722 rebounds. She was just the second player in Greyhound history to be named to the All-MAAC First Team in three-straight seasons.
The Columbia, Maryland, native was a part of one of the most successful teams in Loyola women’s basketball history in 2010-11, helping the Greyhounds to a 21-13 overall record and a berth in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament. The program won its first-ever postseason game that year, with a 67-65 victory over Old Dominion in the first round of the WNIT.
