Women's Basketball Return to Conference Play

Baltimore, Md. - Saturday, both Iona and Loyola return to their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedules after a tough non-conference road for both teams. The Greyhounds are 2-9 overall and are 1-1 in the MAAC after two early conference games. The Gaels have one up on Loyola with a 3-8 record while posting the same record in conference play.

Loyola holds a 25-9 advantage in the series with Iona that began in the 1988-89 season. The two teams split last season with both teams winning on the road. Iona took the first game, an early conference contest on Dec. 5, 2003 by a slim 69-66 advantage while the Greyhounds topped the Gaels by the same margin at the Mulcahy Center, 62-59 on Jan. 31, 2004.

Loyola is led by junior Lauren Troupe with 9.5 points and 5.4 rebounds a game. She is followed by Krystle Harrington with 9.4 points and 4.4 assists. Katie Scherle is third with 9.1 points and she is second in rebounds with 5.3 a game.

Iona is 3-8 overall and 1-1 in the conference with a win over Siena (79-65) and a loss to Manhattan (86-71). The Gaels two remaining wins were over Sacred Heart (64-54) and Wagner (61-54). Despite four games at home, Iona's three wins have all been on the road. The Gaels are led by Meg Abele with 15.7 points per game. She is followed by Melissa Yeagley at 9.5 points and a team-high 2.5 steals a game. Regan Pettijohn is third in scoring at 7.4 and leads in rebounds with 5.7 a game. Toni Horvath rounds out the top scorers at 7.1 points and a team-high of 3.8 assists a game.
