BALTIMORE - Former Loyola University Maryland women's basketball standout Erica DiClemente has signed a professional contract to play for the BK Lokomotiva Karlovy Vary Club in the Czech Republic.
DiClemente played for the Greyhounds from 2006-11, graduating as one of the best to put on the Green and Grey uniform. She helped Loyola to one of its most successful season's as a senior in 2010-11, leading the Greyhounds to a 21-13 record and a trip to the Women's National Invitation Tournament, where the squad won its first-ever postseason game at Old Dominion.
A native of Blue Bell, Pa., DiClemente ranks in the top-10 at Loyola in several categories. She finished as the all-time leader in minutes played (3,440) and games played (130), while ranking fourth in free throw percentage (78.7-percent), sixth in 3-point field goals made (87) and ninth on the all-time career scoring chart with 1,123 career points.
After finishing her undergraduate degree, DiClemente continued her education at Loyola and recently received her Master's of Education.
"Erica was a special player at Loyola and has continued the tradition of excellence we have come to expect from our student-athletes," said head coach Joe Logan. "She has worked hard to get to where she is now and has helped set the standard for our women's basketball program. I want to congratulate Erica and wish her luck in the Czech Republic."
Karlovy Vary is located in the village of Olsová Vrata, 6 km southeast of the city center in western Bohemia in the Czech Republic.
"I am truly blessed and thankful for this opportunity and I look forward to experiencing a new culture and continuing my basketball dreams," said DiClemente. "I would not have accomplished this goal without the Loyola women's basketball program and the faculty/staff that have helped me along the way. Loyola was an amazing experience both on the court and in the classroom and has shaped me into the person and player I am today. I cannot thank Loyola enough for everything it has done for me."
The BK Lokomotiva Karlovy Vary Club is currently in ninth place in the ZBL with six wins and nine losses. You can find out more about the team through their website (http://bklokokv.webnode.cz/) and you can watch DiClemente live in action through the team's web streaming.
DiClemente is the fourth student-athlete to play for Logan to sign a contract in Europe. Others have included current Greyhound assistant coach Jill Glessner, Vika Sholokhova and Siobhan Prior. Glessner spent time in England and Norway, while Sholokhova and Prior are still currently playing. Sholokhova is playing for BK Dynamo in Moscow, Russia, while Prior is playing for the Nottingham Wildcats in England.
