BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team fell to Fairfield University, 71-45, Wednesday night in the Greyhounds' 2015-16 home opener in Reitz Arena.
For the second-straight game, senior Diana Logan led Loyola's offense, contributing 11 points. Senior Colleen Marshall added nine points and a career-high six assists, while sophomore Bri Betz-White had eight points and a personal-best seven rebounds. Graduate student Steph Smith led the defense with eight rebounds.
Loyola (1-2) was unable to find its offensive rhythm in the first half, but returned from the locker room to outshoot Fairfield in the third period.
With 4:14 remaining in the third period, Logan sparked a 10-1 run, knocking down her first of three treys for the evening. Junior Lauren Daugherty capped off the run with a 3-point field goal with 1:50 remaining in the frame to pull the Greyhounds within 15, 46-31.
Fairfield (2-0) went on to score four-unanswered points to close out the third period and maintain its lead for the remainder of the contest.
The Greyhounds return to Reitz Arena Saturday afternoon when they host Norfolk State University at 4 p.m.
