Niagara University, N.Y. - Mallory Lawes scored a career-high 13 points and Siobhan Prior scored 22 to match her career for the third time this year, but Niagara took the 70-65 victory Sunday afternoon at the Gallagher Center.
The Purple Eagles were ahead most of the first half, and took a 24-18 lead at the eight minute mark before the Greyhounds took charge. Ashley Alexander started a Loyola 10-4 run with two points at the foul line and Siobhan Prior followed with a runner through Niagara defenders to cut the deficit to two points.
Mallory Lawes entered the game and helped to tie everything at 24 all, with two at the foul line. In the next possession, Lawes found an opening for a jumper, and the Greyhounds took the lead, 26-24.
With five minutes left in the first, Niagara's Kristina Walton knocked in a lay-up under the basket to knot the score again, but Prior answered with consecutive 3-pointers and Loyola pulled ahead 32-28. She shot four of six from behind the arc in the first half.
Right before halftime, Lawes found an open Kaitlin Grant down low, and the Greyhounds finished the first with a two-point lead, 37-35.
Ten minutes into the second, the score tied at 47 all, Niagara found the offensive surge with a 8-0 run to push ahead 55-47.
Lawes helped the Greyhounds cut the deficit to just three with two 3-pointers, but Niagara's Liz Flooks scored 17 of her 21 in the second half to secure the 70-65 win for the Purple Eagles.
Meredith Tolley finished with 11 points and five rebounds and Grant had six points, six boards and four assists for the Greyhounds.
Walton scored 22 points and finished with 11 rebounds to lead the Purple Eagles.
Loyola hosts Siena for the final regular-season game next Saturday, February 28 at 12 noon. This game will feature Loyola senior's Prior and Alexander.
