Buffalo, N.Y. - Loyola fought hard and pulled within three early on, but Canisius ended the first half on a 20-5 run and carried over the momentum into the second to take a 61-44 victory over Loyola in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action on Friday evening.
Marie Warner scored a game-high 17 points for the Griffins and Brittane Russell finished with eight points and six assists.
After falling by six in the early minutes, the Greyhounds went on a 7-0 run to take a 7-6 lead off a Grant free-throw. Canisius' Ellie Radke answered with two quick lay-ups to regain control of the lead. The Griffins then scored five points from an Amanda Cavo lay-up and a Russell 3-pointer to go up seven, 16-9.
Loyola would then cut the Canisius lead to three after a Prior two-point bucket, but the Griffins continued on a 20-5 run to finish the half ahead, 36-18.
The Greyhounds started the second half on a 9-4 run with a two-point basket from Grant and then a fast-break lay-up from Walker, to cut the deficit to 16
In the next Loyola possession, Prior found an opening behind the arc for three and Melissa Bangay followed with a lay-up to pull within 13, 40-27..Warner scored nine of her 17 in the last 15 minutes of play to help the Griffins take the win.
Loyola continues its final road trip weekend with a matchup against Niagara on Sunday at 2 p.m.
