BALTIMORE, MD - Siena posted three players in double figures in a 58-46 win over Loyola Sunday afternoon at Reitz Arena. Jolene Johnston scored 19 points to lead the Saints over the Greyhounds. Loyola falls to 10-11 overall with the loss and to an even 6-6 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Siena improved to 12-10 overall and 8-5 in the league.
Siena led from the opening minute of play when Nathalie Marchino hit a three-points to open scoring at 19:22. Lindsay Cobb answered back with a two-point basket for Loyola at 19:03. The two teams held each other scoreless almost the next 2:45 before trading baskets for the next four minutes. Cobb gave Loyola the with a three at 11:00 for a 13-13 score but Siena would go on to lead by as much as 15 points at the close of the first half, 34-19.
Loyola's defense worked hard in the second half, holding Siena to just one basket in the first six minutes of play. Jill Glessner score two baskets and Lauren Troupe added a layup and a three-point basket to get the Greyhounds within six, 36-30. But that would be as close as they could come with Johnston scoring 11 of her 19 points in the last 13 minutes of play.
Johnston, in addition to her game-high 19, pulled down another game-high of 12 rebounds. She was followed in double digits by teammates Katelyn Dooley with 15 and Nathalie Marchino with 10.
Loyola outshot Siena in Sunday's game, 40% to 37%. Siena dominated on the boards however, grabbing 41 to Loyola's 24.
The Greyhounds will have much of this coming week off until traveling to Manhattan on Sunday, Feb. 15th.
