BALTIMORE, MD - The Greyhounds avenged an early season road loss Thursday night with a 64-57 win over Rider at Reitz Arena. Loyola had fallen to the Broncs in Lawerencville, 73-55 on January 6th. The Greyhounds, who posted four players in double digits in the victory, improve to 10-10, 6-5 while Rider falls to 4-16, 2-9.
The two teams went up and down the court more than five times in just under three minutes before point guard Krystle Harrington hit a turn around jumper at 17:09 for the first points of the game. The two team exchanged baskets for the next few minutes before the Greyhounds offense stepped on the gas, scoring 23 points in the next 11 minutes to Rider's seven.
Rider went on a 16-4 run to catch up to Loyola to trail by two at 13:58 but the entire Greyhound squad never panicked and remained composed to rebuild their lead for the win. Loyola scored the next seven straight points to gain a solid nine point lead (40-31) at 11:27 and never looked back.
Loyola was led by sophomore Katie Scherle with 16 points. She was followed by Lauren Troupe at 11 points and a team-high of seven rebounds. Guards Harrington and Lindsay Cobb each added 10 points. Jackie Valderas added solid play off the bench with six points, seven rebounds and two steals.
Leanne Moore led for the Broncs with 19 points and was followed by Becky Hower with 11 points and a game-high of nine rebounds. The Broncs committed 22 turnovers in Thursday's game, 14 in the first half.
The Greyhounds will host the Saints of Siena College on Sunday, Feb. 8 as a part of Loyola's Women in Sport Day. Sunday is also Breast Cancer Awareness Day on the Evergreen campus. Tip off is set for 2:00 p.m.
