Women's Basketball Falls to Siena on the Road, 70-58

Loundonville, N.Y. - The Loyola College women's basketball team fell on the road Friday night to Siena, 70-58 at the Alumni Recreation Center. The Greyhounds fall to 7-11 overall and 6-3 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference while the Saints improve to 9-9 and 6-3 in the league.

Loyola started the contest with an 8-2 run with the last four points of the run coming from Brittany Dunn with 16:44 left in the half. Siena countered with a 10-2 run that included two three point baskets to tie the contest at 10. Meghan Wood helped the Greyhounds reclaim the lead 14-10 before Siena's Katelyn Dooley hit the team's third three to cut the lead to 17-13 with 12:36 on the clock. Kerri-Lynn Orsini hit a three of her own and Krystle Harrington added a jumper for a 19-13 Loyola lead with 11:39 on the clock. Over the final 11 minutes of play, Siena outscored the Greyhounds 19-4 for a 32-23 half time advantage.

To start the second half, the teams exchanged baskets for a 37-25 score before Loyola went on a 10-1 run to get within three at 38-35 with 16:23 on the clock. Siena countered with a 12-2 run for a 50-37 score before Jackie Valderas ended a Greyhound drought with a three-point play at 10:07. The Saints ad an answer again as Lauren Surber hit a three and Naimah Abdullah added a basket to give Siena their largest lead, 50-40 with just over nine minutes left to play. Harrington started an 11-3 run at 8:31 for Loyola to cut the Saint's advantage to 58-51. The Greyhounds held Siena without a basket for over six minutes until Laura Menty added to her points total with a basket at 3:05 for a 60-51 score. Dooley helped to bring the lead back up to 65-54 at 1:50 before Ebony Toliver went 1-for-2 from the line and Lauren Troupe hit a three to again cut the lead to seven, 65-58 with 1:28 left. Siena scored the final six points of the game, four from the charity stripe for the 70-58 final.

Troupe led the Greyhounds with 15 points and seven rebounds. She was followed by Harrington with 10 points and five assists.

Menty led three Siena players in double figures with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Surber added 18 and Dooley 10

Loyola returns home to face Fairfield on Sunday, January 30 at 4:00 p.m. in Reitz Arena.
