Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Junior Miriam McKenzie had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds as the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team fell to Marist 62-52 tonight at McCann Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Graduate student Erica DiClemente had 13 points for the Greyhounds.
Loyola is now 9-10 and 6-2 in the MAAC, while Marist is 18-2 and 8-0 in the conference.
McKenzie had five of her points and seven rebounds coming alone in the first half. Sophomore Katie Sheahin had nine points and five rebounds.
The game was tied at seven early in the first half before Marist went on a 9-0 run that was ended by a McKenzie free throw. The Red Foxes then went on a 4-0 run that was ended by a Walker layup.
The Greyhounds were unable to make the shots fall as Marist went on a 15-5 run that ended the half 35-15.
In the second half, the biggest lead for the Red Foxes was 21 points but the Greyhounds finally came within 14 points with shots coming from DiClemente and Sheahin. The Greyhounds came within seven with under two minutes left with a layup and free throw shot by McKenzie.
Marist made four free throw shots to take a 11 points lead to end the game. The Red Foxes were led by Erica Allenspach who had 22 points and Corielle Yarde recorded 14 points.
The Greyhounds shot 20.7 percent in the first half and ended the game shooting 35.7 percent. Marist shot 44.1 percent in the first half and finished the game shooting 40 percent.
The Greyhounds will visit Niagara on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and see Canisius on Sunday in Buffalo, N.Y. for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
