Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Greyhounds shot a cold 33.9% in a 64-50 loss to Marist Friday night at the McCann Center. Marist's Fifi Camara scored 23 points, 17 in the first half to lead the Red Foxes' to the win. Loyola falls to 4-10 overall and 3-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference while Marist improves to 8-6 and 2-3.
The Greyhounds opened the contest with a 6-0 scoring run only to be countered by a 6-0 run by the Red Foxes for a 6-6 score at 14:24. The squads exchanged the lead and tied twice before a 14-2 run by Marist broke open the game at 23-12. Camara scored eight points in that run. The squads exchanged baskets, 27-16 and Loyola went on a 9-3 run to finish the half and bring the game within reach 30-24.
Early in the second half the Greyhounds held the Red Foxes to that six point lead with a jumper by Brittany Dunn and a three by Lauren Troupe for a 35-29 score at 18:28. But the Loyola went without a field-goal for the next seven minutes as Marist went on a 15-2 run and a 50-31 score at 11:59. Loyola cut the lead to 50-35 by forcing back-to-back Marist turnovers but the Red Foxes' countered building up as much as a 22-point lead at 3:45. Loyola's Krystle Harrington made the final score closer by scoring the final seven points of the game.
Camara led the contest with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Megan Vetter added 11 and Kristin Keller rounded out the Marist players in double-digits with 10.
Troupe led the Greyhounds with 13 points. Harrington, Dunn and Jackie Valderas each added eight points. Valderas shot 4-for-4 from the floor. Katie Scherle led on the board with 11. Harrington tallied seven assists.
The contest featured 39 total turnovers and both teams shot just 64.3% from the free-throw line.
Loyola returns home to host Saint Peter's on Monday, January 14 at 2:00 p.m.
